Smile Brilliant At Home Teeth Whitening for Sensitive Teeth
I received this teeth whitening kit from Smile Brilliant to try out and I have to admit that I had my doubts. I have sensitive teeth and even the smallest thing can make them hurt but when they said that they had gels designed for sensitive teeth I decided to give it a try.
The kit arrived with everything I would need in it. The first thing you have to do is create your impressions. So, if you are in a time crunch make sure that you are aware that not only are you going to have to get moving right away on your impressions but if you don’t do them correctly that will delay your trays arriving on time.
To create your impressions you are supplied 2 trays and 3 sets of impression mold materials. You take the white and the blue material, roll them into separate balls and than smash them together and keep folding them on themselves until you no longer see any white then you have a short window to get them in your trays and onto your teeth. Make sure to use a mirror and bite down. My 1st set of impressions did not work so I had to not only wait for my impressions to get to them, I had to wait for the lab to review them and then send me a new set of trays and material and then I had to do new impressions and send them in again. I had not made my impressions deep enough which they did tell me when I sent them back, so you don’t have to guess what you did wrong. It took me about a month to get my trays- that included a couple day delay after receiving the original package, waiting for the lab to tell me I would have to do the impressions again, having them mail me new material and trays, send new impressions in and then receive my custom trays. So if you are in a hurry I would suggest doing your impressions and taking photos for the lab to review to make sure you did them right before sending them in.
Once I had my trays I was able to start whitening. The trays fit me PERFECTLY. I recommend taking your trays out when they arrive, rinsing them off and drying them and then trying them on your teeth before you get started. I would put my top tray on the top of my holder and the bottom on the bottom of my holder so that I didn’t have to guess which was which when I was ready to apply them. Make sure you brush your teeth with water only & make sure the trays are dry, and apply a thin, even layer of gel to the trays. If you apply too much it will seep out and you will have a mess on your hands. Do not lose the top of the applicator as they are multiple applications in each tube.
Now you wait. I know that the instructions say to relax but I found I couldn’t relax, I would hang out and try to stay distracted but I felt like a drooled a lot and for some reason I felt like I couldn’t just chill out. I could only stand to keep my trays on for 45 minutes at a time, once I made it to a full hour. This was not because of the gel but rather because the back of my tray was irritating my gums. You an leave them on for up to 3 hours if you can stand it and can stay awake that late since you are suppose to use these after you eat and before you go to sleep. After I used the whitening gel I would brush my teeth with non-whitening toothpaste and then do the desensitizing gel for 20 min-30 min.
While you are in the process of whitening your teeth you will have better results if you don’t eat or drink anything during the process. This includes coffee, tea and even spaghetti sauce!
As I mention in the video my results were not dramatic and I feel like they are more noticeable in person. Again, I only did a week for 45 minutes at a time and my teeth were pretty white to begin with so if you can do a longer period of time and your teeth are stained to begin with I have no doubt that you will see great results. I am going to keep trying with mine to see if I can get them whiter, we shall see…
In the meantime, the kit was easy to use, everything was labeled well and explained clearly. The step were easy to follow and creating the molds was easy and kind of fun. Once I had my trays the whitening didn’t bother my sensitive teeth at all and I think with more time will work even better, the key is to make sure you have enough time to devote to the process and the longer you can keep them on the better.
